Molybdenum market update on June 15, 2026
On Monday, China’s domestic molybdenum market overall maintained a weak trend. This was mainly reflected in low willingness among suppliers to actively participate in market operations, slight price declines for some products, and limited new orders. Today, prices for molybdenum concentrate, ferromolybdenum, and ammonium tetramolybdate were approximately RMB 5,080 per ton-degree, RMB 318,000 per ton, and RMB 312,000 per ton respectively. Recently, steel enterprises conducting ferromolybdenum tenders included Jiangsu Nangang, Shandong Iron & Steel Co., Ltd., Hengyang Valin Steel Tube, Sinosteel, and Anhui Masteel, with tender prices around RMB 310,000 per ton.
According to CTIA GROUP, with the continuous upgrading of science and technology, the application scope of molybdenum products has expanded. Science and Technology Innovation Board Daily reported that SK Hynix has completed production validation of 375-layer NAND flash memory and is preparing to transfer its mass production line to the M15 plant in Cheongju. The product is scheduled for official mass production by the end of this year. The biggest technical highlight of this iteration lies in the use of molybdenum materials to replace traditional tungsten carbide materials for word lines. Under the same miniaturized dimensions, molybdenum has lower resistivity, which can effectively accelerate data read and write speeds.
News: According to data from the China Iron and Steel Association, in late May 2026, key steel enterprises produced 20.01 million tons of pig iron, with an average daily output of 1.819 million tons, which decreased by 3.2% month-on-month. By region, pig iron daily output in Northeast China decreased by 0.2 million tons, in North China decreased by 5.6 million tons, in East China decreased by 0.7 million tons, in Northwest China decreased by 0.3 million tons, while in Southwest China increased by 0.1 million tons, and in Central South China increased by 0.8 million tons.
