Molybdenum market update on June 17, 2026
The overall molybdenum market in China is in good condition, mainly reflected in the price increases of mainstream products to varying degrees, relatively high enthusiasm of traders to enter the market, and an increase in new orders. Today, the prices of molybdenum concentrate, ferromolybdenum and sodium molybdate increased by approximately 90 RMB/ton-degree, 5,000 RMB/ton and 2,000 RMB/ton respectively.
In the molybdenum concentrate market, the overall transaction volume and price both rose, mainly due to the fact that mining enterprises in Henan, Jiangxi and other regions raised prices for shipments, downstream manufacturers had acceptable acceptance of high-priced raw materials, and the spot circulation of molybdenum concentrate continued to be relatively tight. In addition, in the long run, driven by the dual wheels of new energy and artificial intelligence industries, the increase in market demand for molybdenum products has also greatly strengthened suppliers' confidence in raising prices.
In the ferromolybdenum market, against the background of steel enterprises successively entering bids for ferromolybdenum and the sharp rise in the selling price of molybdenum concentrate, intermediate smelting enterprises continued to raise their quotations, with quotations at around 328,000 RMB/ton. However, the limited upward room for steel enterprises' bidding prices for ferromolybdenum may restrict further upward movement of ferromolybdenum prices.
In the molybdenum chemical and its products market, under the condition of a relatively balanced supply and demand pattern, product prices have been raised along with the rise in raw material prices, among which the price of molybdate basically increased by 2,000 RMB/ton, and the price of ferromolybdenum increased by 4 RMB/kg.
News aspect: Data from the China Iron and Steel Association shows that in early June 2026, key statistical steel enterprises produced a total of 20.83 million tons of crude steel, with an average daily output of 2.083 million tons, and the daily output increased by 3.8% month-on-month. By region, the daily output of crude steel in North China increased by 51,000 tons, that in East China increased by 23,000 tons, that in Northwest China increased by 2,000 tons, that in Southwest China increased by 2,000 tons, that in Central South China increased by 2,000 tons, and that in Northeast China decreased by 4,000 tons.
